Shizue Sano, pianist
PROGRAM includes selections by Isaac Albeniz, Enrique Granados, Manuel  de Falla, Frédéric  Chopin.

WORKSHOP minimum participation is 6-8. Refunds available if under-enrolled. Two scholarships available for high-school students.

Japanese-born pianist Shizue Sano has given many solo and chamber music recitals in the United States, Japan and Europe. She has appeared as a soloist with the Pittsburgh Symphony, Hartford Symphony, Tokyo Philharmonic, Nagoya Philharmonic, and Uccle Philharmonic of Belgium. She has recorded Liszt's Sonata and Ravel's Le Tombeau de Couperin (Pavane Record), and Chopin's complete Preludes (Japan Victor). Her performances have been broadcast on stations WGBH, Connecticut Public Radio, NHK, Belgium National Radio, Cultural Radio of Japan, Nagoya TV, Chita Medias Network and others. This is her third annual recital at St. John's Coffeehouse.

Since the summer of 2000, Ms. Sano has organized and performed a successful concert series, "the Treasure Box of Music", in her hometown of Tokai in Japan. The programs for these concerts contain wide range of classical piano music. It has become a highly anticipated event in the region each summer. This concert series celebrated its 10th year in July 2009. The mayor of Tokai presented Ms. Sano with a certificate of appreciation for her contribution to the city's cultural development.

Shizue has been giving her annual recital in Ware/Deering area in NH since 2009. She has also given several recitals in her hometown, Methuen, MA. She also performs as a member of a piano duo team "Twenty Fingers" with Tanya Shrago. This duo team has been active in introduction of the piano 4-hands music by a Russian composer, Valery Gavrilin, to American audience.

Ms. Sano holds a Bachelor of Music from Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo, a Master of Music and an Artist Diploma, both with high distinction, from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. She has studied with Gyorgy Sebok, Edward Auer, Victor Rosenbaum and Sadako Matsuoka. She has won many awards in competitions. Among these are the Simone Belsky Music Award in Connecticut, the Second Prize and the Liszt Special Prize at St.Nom-la-Bréteche in France, and the JAA Music Award in New York.
Ms. Sano is on a faculty and the Treasurer of the Faculty Union at the Longy School of Music of Bard College in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and is active in solo and chamber music performances.

She lives in Methuen, Massachusetts, with her husband, daughter, and a pet dog, Skye.
