CABARET
Willkommen! Trinity University's Department of Human Communication and Theatre, in association with the Department of Music, continues its 60th season with CABARET, written by Joe Masteroff, with music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb, based on the play by John Van Druten and stories by Christopher Isherwood. The musical will run November 7-15 in the Stieren Theater. Admission is free, and seating is first-come, first-served.
Originally produced on Broadway in 1966 and updated in a 1998 revival, Kander and Ebb's CABARET explores the dark and tumultuous lives of Berlin's natives and expatriates as Germany slowly yields to the emerging Third Reich. The story follows two couples: Clifford Bradshaw, an American writer who falls for British cabaret performer Sally Bowles; and Fraulein Schneider, a boarding house proprietor, who begins a romance with Herr Schultz, a mild-mannered fruit seller who happens to be Jewish. Meanwhile, the Emcee at the hedonistic Kit Kat Klub invites the audience to forget their troubles because life is a cabaret, old chum!
CABARET is directed by Nathan Stith, with music direction by James Worman, choreography by Dani Andrade, scenic design by Martha Peñaranda and Maria del Río Hamer, costumes by Kellie Grengs, lighting design by Carlos R. Nine and Emilia Pardue, and technical direction by Nicholes Hernandez.
CABARET is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Tams-Witmark LLC. www.concordtheatricals.com
