7ajar and The Lost Paintings
7ajar School of Creative Research/Resistance is a hybrid, interdisciplinary counter-school shaped by a transnational community of artists, students, educators, and cultural workersPalestinian and non-Palestinian alike. It brings together those directly impacted by occupation, censorship, and dislocation, as well as those committed to shared struggle, to co-create audio and video projects that assert and reimagine history. Grounded in family and community archives, the school reshapes the politics of memory through collective storytelling, pedagogical experimentation, and creative dissent. As Mahmoud Darwish wrote, A stone from our land builds the ceiling of the sky. A stone7ajar in Arabicis not just a stone; it is knowledge, memory, and possibility. We carry this spirit into our pedagogy, our collaborations, and our liberatory cultural practices.
The Lost Paintings, a Prelude to Return is an imagined recreation of the last exhibition held in Palestine by Palestinian-Lebanese artist Maroun Tomb, which opened on November 29, 1947 in Haifa. This evenings program will present 10 video components of The Lost Paintings exhibition.
