Kung Pao Kosher Comedy Presents...
Comedy Returns to El Rio!

This monthly (every 3rd Thursday of the month) multicultural comedy show, featuring an eclectic mix of comedians from the Bay Area and beyond, is now celebrating its 5th Anniversary. It was created in celebration of comedian/comedy producer, Lisa Geduldig's (Kung Pao Kosher Comedy) 20th year doing comedy; she began her comedy career in 1989 at El Rio. The show has been catering to standing room only audiences.

This month features: Karen Ripley (veteran of LGBT comedy and began her comedy career for 37 years); Dhaya Lakshminarayanan (comedian and storyteller; double degree from MIT; traditional Indian upbringing in the Deep South); Eloisa Bravo (local favorite; originally from Venezuela); Julia Jackson (hails from Milwaukee; the daughter of a father from Harlem and a mother from a dairy farm in Wisconsin); and Lisa Geduldig (Producer of Kung Pao Kosher Comedy).

Karen Ripley is a queer comic and improv master and has been featured on LOGO TV. She is a veteran of LGBT comedy and began her comedy career in 1977 (37 years ago!) in the heyday of the LGBT comedy movement in San Francisco. She has performed at hundreds of Pride events as well as The Fringe & Diva Festivals.

Dhaya Lakshminarayanan was named "Best Comedian 2013" in the SF Bay Guardian's Best of the Bay Readers Poll. She is a favorite at corporate events as well as festivals like the Bridgetown Comedy Festival, SF Sketchfest, the Boston Comedy Festival, and the Women in Comedy Festival. She is the Grand Prize Winner of Comedy Central Asia's "Ultimate Comedy Challenge." In addition, Dhaya is a storyteller and TV host. She hosted the premiere year of the Emmy-award winning PBS series, High School Quiz Show. She is a frequent comedic storyteller on NPR's Snap Judgment, performed live on The Risk podcast in Austin, and was awarded $10,000 from webcasting company ON24 for Best Travel Disaster Story. She has worked with Marc Maron, Janeane Garofalo, and Dick Gregory. Dhaya had a traditional Indian upbringing in the Deep South and has a double degree from MIT. http://www.Dhayacomedy.com

Eloisa Bravo started her comedy career soon after she discovered she couldn't have children and a subsequent divorce. She holds nothing back and derives her material from real life, exploding with energy on stage. You'll notice her immediately for her Venezuelan accent and highly expressive performance; yet it's the nature and intensity of her material that will stick with you, with its unique perspective on the issues affecting urban, single women. Packed with energy and cuteness she will make you laugh, assuming you are lucky enough to understand her accent. She has performed at the San Francisco Punchline, the Purple Onion, Rooster T. Feathers, as well as the Palm Beach, Miami, and Hollywood Improvs. She has won several comedy competitions in the Bay Area and produces comedy and variety shows including Trainwreck Cabaret and The BitchSlap. http://www.eloisabravo.com

Julia Jackson grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Her father came from Harlem, and her mother came from a dairy farm in Whitewater, Wisconsin. She says, "How could I not be funny with that pedigree? You laugh or you cry, folks. I chose humor. I wound up in the only place that would take me: San Francisco. It's actually home to the Intelligent Female Relocation Program." Her solo show, "Children are Forever (All Sales Final)," about the trials and tribulations of adopting a baby just had a successful run at Stagewerx in SF. http://www.juliajackson.com

Lisa Geduldig is a local comic and comedy producer who's the creator, producer, and MC of a variety of comedy shows including Kung Pao Kosher Comedy (which celebrates its 22nd year this December); Funny Girlz: A Smorgasbord of Women Comedians; The Color of Funny: A Multi-Cultural Comedy Show; and A Muslim, A Mormon, and A Jew Walk into A Bar: The Comedy of Religion.
