Docomomo US/WEWA invites you to visit the Veldee residence on Mercer Island. We are excited to open this architectural gem for public viewing for the first time. The property has been in the same ownership/stewardship since it was built in 1960. We thank the Veldee family for providing this opportunity to see the house.
Designed in the late 1950s by prominent architect L. Jane Hastings (1928-2024) for her friends Roy and Barbara Veldee and their two young children, this mid-century modern residence was the familys dream home and has changed little since it was built. The Veldees built the house themselves with help from friends. This was quite an accomplishment since Roy worked full-time as a civil engineer at Boeing and Barbara was a busy homemaker raising two toddlers. Landscape architect Ed Watanabe designed the landscape for the property.
Spend a lovely spring day with us at this special home. Enjoy refreshments and conversation in the garden.
WHEN: Sunday, June 15, 2025, 11 am to 2 pm. Come anytime between these open-to-view hours.
WHERE: The house is on Mercer Island. The address will be revealed once tour tickets have been purchased.
COST: $10 (plus $2.09 service fee) per person. All tour income goes toward future programs.
Registration is required for attending this event. No ticket sales at the door.
