2014 BOOGIE DOWN DANCE Series presents Antonio Ramos & The Gangbangers - NEVERLAND
2 SHOWS! - MAY 9th &10th
In NEVERLAND Antonio Ramos takes inspiration from the stories of actual homeless LGBT youth, and how the experiences of these youth relate to his own personal story of growing up gay in a community and family where his identity was not supported or even tolerated. Antonio found himself always searching for shelter, for a safe space. I left his home in Puerto Rico at age 16, HIV positive, with next to no money, speaking no English, and came to New York. Using family as formed by social movements and social dance, nudity, and layering complications of movement phrases, this piece explores the search for home and belonging."
