Tour of the Landing and Alley Grove at Tustin Legacy By Robert Hidey Architects & C2 Collaborative
Inspired by the timeless charm of Europes white-washed villages, the design envisions a modern community that blends 21st-century living with the intimacy and beauty of these iconic settings. Located in the City of Tustin, this neighborhood draws from the pixelated, clustered compositions of traditional white cubic architecture, reinterpreted with a contemporary twist. Each building is crafted to be an iconic, sculptural element that merges seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. The transparent ground floors engage the garden and streetscape, blurring the line between interior and exterior spaces. The dominant white color highlights the buildings form, with sunlight animating the structure throughout the day, creating a dynamic interplay of volumes, shadows, and the vibrant flora. Attendees will further learn about passive design to create healthy living environments, residential applications in the Cal Green codes, and review Chapter 11a, Housing Accessibility in the California Building Code.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Attendees will experience how natural light was used as a main design feature to reduce the operational carbon footprint, minimize energy consumption, and create healthier environments for its occupants.

Learning Objective 2:
Attendees will learn how to mitigate strict measures in Chapter 11a of the California Building Code through a well thought out design phase.

Learning Objective 3:
Attendees will learn about the residential requirements of the CalGreen codes and how to be more energy efficient, including hvac systems, lighting controls and insulation to reduce energy consumption.

Learning Objective 4:
Attendees will learn how to improve air quality through well designed ventilation, low emission materials, and moisture control for the health of the occupants.
