Village Building Convergence 9: Momentum...Powered by the People
Welcome to the 2009 Village Building Convergence!
If you would like to learn more about the event, please read the description below. As for right here, right now, we've got your ticketing price structure.
All passes available through this website are for multiple nights. For our in-town guests, we offer two options: a 5-day pass at $85 and a 10-day pass at $150. This pass will grant you ALL evening meals, speaker series and entertainment, and full access to all VBC sites & workshops.
For our out of town visitors, we offer three options: a 3-day pass at $115, a 5-day pass at $190 and a 10-day pass at $350. Please note that prices are increased for our out of town gusts because we also arrange housing for your stay with us.
*If you will be coming from out of town, but already have a place in Portland to stay during the Convergence, there is no need to buy an out of town pass.
**If you are coming from out of town and do indeed need a place to stay, make sure you fill out a Request for Housing (http://cityrepair.org/events/vbc/tickets/housingneed/) so that we can find you appropriate lodging for your stay with us.
The Village Building Convergence is a statement of our combined dedication to create the world in which we want to be living. VBC is a cyclical, seasonal, celebration, a reclaimed holiday of community action. At its root, VBC is about actively building our community, and realizing the strength and beauty of our power when we work and play together. By building a physical and social village infrastructure we are realizing our common visions for a lively and sustainable urban community.
The Village Building Convergence 2009 (VBC9) is a 10-day event from Friday, June 5th to Sunday, June 14th, 2009 in which neighborhoods activate to build shared public places that they have envisioned, designed, funded, and will maintain for themselves. VBC will include hands-on education in permaculture design and construction, ecological building, and public art. All projects are built through collaboration, community conversations and commitment of a neighborhood to strengthen itself. Everyone is invited to attend evening events at a central location, to participate in a shared dinner, workshops and listen to visionaries speak about various aspects of sustainable culture.
VBC will feature projects located in or adjacent to the public right of way and private projects that support community in various neighborhoods. Private site projects will be structures or systems that are built by and available to the communities concerned with that site, and hopefully available to some extent to the larger community. These will include public squares and meeting houses, community kiosks and benches, solar-powered and artistic innovations, and many other new ideas.
