Sierra Nevada Zero Waste Tour
SWANA Gold Rush Chapter is sponsoring a tour of the first business to be certified by the U.S. Zero Waste Business Council on Friday, May 2nd, 2014. The tour will focus on the Sierra Nevada Brewing Company's Zero Waste features.
In 2012, 99.8% of Sierra Nevada's solid waste was diverted from the landfill through creative measures that encourage reuse, recycling or composting of discarded materials. Sierra Nevada is home to the only HotRot composting system in the U.S. which converts organic materials from the brewery and restaurant into rich compost which is then used in its estate hop field, barley field, restaurant garden, and employee garden.
We will meet for a no-host lunch at the on-site restaurant at 12 p.m. and tour the facility at 1:30 p.m.
Tour participants are required to wear close-toed shoes.
