"Who the f*ck am I... to think that I can do all these things my mother couldn't?"
*free* workshop welcoming women and other marginalised genders
This workshop will look at the book 'Our Work is Everywhere: An Illustrated Oral History of Queer and Trans Resistance' by Syan Rose, a beautifully illustrated graphic novel showcasing the stories of queer and trans activists, artists and leaders in their own words.
You will be invited to think around the titling quote, "Who the f*ck am I... to think that I can do all these things my mother couldn't?" and use old magazines, found text and black out to respond creatively. We will explore intergenerational 'progress,' skill sharing and skill loss, shifting understandings of how we are raised. We will also touch on the changing labour market and work opportunities for women, immigrant / refugee stories and diaspora experiences.
FEMINIST EXCHANGE NETWORK'S MOBILE LIBRARY
Our growing collection of books began at Swap Market, a non-monetary exchange project we ran in Govanhill Glasgow from 2018-2020 - a woman* led space for the exchange of resources, knowledge and ideas.
We began collecting books that looked at different types of economy, community networks and alternatives to the capitalist system. As the project grew our book collection has expanded to include books on decolonisation, climate justice and environmental activism.
In 2021 local artists Hannah Brackston designed and built out bike-drawn mobile library to allow us to take our resources out and about.
ABOUT FEMINIST EXCHANGE NETWORK
Feminist Exchange Network is a South Glasgow based women-led* collective. We use social and activist art to explore how ideas of feminist economics relate to peoples lived experience. Our projects explore academic ideas in accessible formats, encouraging community discussion, enacting alternative economic models - thinking about global economic challenges while putting things into practice at a local level.
