WVLO West Side Story
The worlds greatest love story set to music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Sondheim takes to the streets of New York City in this award-winning Broadway musical. Based on a tough, contemporary story, spiced with love and headlines about warring juvenile street gangs and their struggle to survive in the world of hate, prejudice and violence.
When West Side Story opened on Broadway in 1957 and was hailed by the critics as a milestone in blending drama, music and dance. An Oscar-winning movie version was made in 1961, starring Natalie Wood and Rita Moreno, that made this musical a classic. With electrifying dances and some of the most magnificent music ever written for the stage, the score includes Maria, Tonight and Somewhere.
