Linda Bierds: Reading & Book Signing
Long-time Bainbridge resident Linda Bierds will read from her ninth book of poetry, ROGET'S ILLUSION, on Thursday, April 17, at 7 pm, in the auditorium on the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art.
The book, recently published by Penguin/Putnam's, has been selected by Library Journal as one of "Ten Essential Poetry Titles for 2014."
Looking at writers, artists, and scientistsincluding Peter Roget of Thesaurus fame, Virginia Woolf, Albrecht Durer and Michael Faradaythe book's poems explore the intersections of art and science, and examine our belief that words hold more than their definitions.
Bierds' work has appeared in numerous magazines, including The New Yorker, The Atlantic, and The Smithsonian. She has received awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Guggenheim Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation, and the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. She is a member of the Creative Writing faculty at the University of Washington.
