COTE Presents: Code, Compliance, & Cupcakes
AIA|LA Committee on the Environment presents
Code, Compliance, & Cupcakes
Thursday, June 26 (6pm-8pm) AIA Los Angeles 3780 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 800 Los Angeles, CA 90010
Learning Units: 2.0
AIA members = free non-AIA members = $25.00. Seminar Summary: California has set Net-Zero Energy as a design goal by 2030, therefore it is imperative that all members of the design team are on the same page when it comes to code requirements and sustainable design practices. This presentation focuses on "what it means" rather than "what is says" regarding the new requirements. To keep things interesting, the presentation addresses how the changes will affect architects, owners, and engineers in terms of the things they care about: cost, schedule, coordination, space, time, etc. Learning Objectives: Understand the new envelope performance requirements and considerations for future solar systems. Understand the necessary considerations to implement lighting power reductions and electrical infrastructure requirements. Understand how new mechanical requirements will increase costs and building space required. Understand the new commissioning requirements and the timeline for their completion.
Speaker Bios:
Justin Di Palo, E.I.T., M.S. - Energy Analyst, Glumac
Born outside of New York City, Justin graduated from the University of Maryland and moved to Los Angeles to join the Energy Team at Glumac in the summer of 2012. As a Mechanical Engineer and Energy Analyst, Justin applies his passion for sustainability and energy efficiency towards performing holistic building energy modeling in order to guide design and optimize building performance. Justin strives to impact his clients' building projects from concept to operation by emphasizing the importance of integrated, sustainable engineering. Matt Kaainoni Senior Project Manager, Glumac
A native Hawaiian, Matt joined the Glumac team in 2008 as an Electrical Engineer. Matt has designed and developed lighting, power, and signal systems for buildings in every market sector. Matt's responsibilities include overall design engineering, review, and project management. When he isn't surfing, Matt spends his energy developing new ways to improve the lighting and power systems of his designs to minimize energy consumption and maximize user comfort. Fabio Kwon Commisioning Agent, Glumac
Fabio is a mechanical engineer with five years of commissioning experience from New York City where he worked on projects like the JP Morgan Chase headquarters and the 9/11 Memorial fountains. He joined Glumac in the summer of 2012 and specializes in retro commissioning, CALGreen commissioning, LEED commissioning and the new Title 24 commissioning. Fabio is a family man and is hoping to make this world a greener place for the next generation by commissioning and retro-commissioning one building at a time.
