Verdi's Otello Set on the island of Cyprus, Otello is the story of a strong but insular leader whose fortunes are undone by a scheming subordinate with a dark personal agenda. Passed up for a promotion, the insidious Iago chips away at Otellos confidence with conspiracy theories galore, including one that questions the fidelity of his loving wife and confidante, Desdemona.
As the rumor mill grinds, the increasingly unmoored Otellos crisis of confidence spirals into desperation, madness and tragedy.
As Giuseppe Verdis penultimate opera, the intricate story line is attended by a beautifully wrought score thats been a house favorite since it was first performed at La Scala in 1887.
