Sacramento PRIDE Awards
Robert Mapplethorpe, Vladimir Luxuria and Virginia Woolf are all names we know. Right?
Ok so how about Harvey Milk, Chaz Bono, Madonna and Billie Jean King? OK - so now I have your attention.
These LGBT (and ally) activist names are synonymous with leadership, service and commitment to their communities. They donate their time and money to helping making our community safer, shattering stigmas, fighting for rights and much more. These role models are people we look up to for ways to make a difference, leave a legacy or change their communities. But what about our Sacramento community? Locally, do you know who makes a difference?
Please join us for the first annual Sacramento PRIDE Awards reception on June 24th at 5:30 pm at the Hyatt Regency in Downtown Sacramento. At this must attend event we will be recognizing Sacramento leaders for their community service, leadership and good old fashioned "get it done" attitudes. These LGBT (and ally) activists are synonymous with leadership, service and commitment to their communities. They donate their time and money to helping making our community safer, shattering stigmas, fighting for rights and much more. The event will include a no-host bar, appetizers, and the awards presentation.
Proceeds from this event support the Sacramento LGBT Community Center, which creates programs, events and pathways to service that help LGBT individuals and families feel safe, welcome, and needed. We envision a Sacramento region where sexual orientation, and gender identity and expression (SOGIE) are recognized as a spectrum of valued personal characteristics, universally respected and affirmed. The Sacramento LGBT Community Center serves a large radius throughout Northern California that stretches from Chico to Fresno and the East Bay to South Lake Tahoe. We have parents who drive their kids 75 miles each way to ensure they have one hour a week at the Center that makes them feel valued. Funds are used to develop the Q-spot youth drop in Center, conduct health outreach and HIV testing, provide support to marginalized groups within the LGBT community, offer cultural sensitivity training to businesses and organizations, encourage diverse artistic expression, advocate for LGBT issues, and present fun and educational events year round.
Thank you for support and we look forward to seeing you at the Hyatt on June 24th!
