35 Years Taller - The Dao of New York
El Taller Latino Americano is pleased to present The Dao of New York, hosted by New York times best selling author Eric Darton, as part of our 35 Years Taller series.
Do great cities have a "way," a "method," and, by extension, "a rule of life," or "process" that allows them to live robustly and nourish their inhabitants?
If they do, what is the Dao of New York? And can we say that our City is living in harmony with it?
The 35th Anniversary of El Taller Latino Americano (The Latin American Workshop) coinciding with its campaign to remain in its current space will serve as the first a series of strategic and tactical workshops with Eric Darton and friends.
Our initial gathering celebrates the generative nature of El Taller and ties its existence into a set practices aimed at nourishing the body-mind of the city in which we live, and which lives within us.
Taking into account, but also looking beyond the everyday politics and stresses, we will use a Daoist perspective to develop real methods which drive powerfully and with clear intent toward a city that embodies the full humanity of each and all of us. This practice allows us to see, and move, from the knowledge that our selves, our city, and the world are not merely related, but coextensive, mutually-sustaining and interdependent.
El Taller's milestone of longevity offers us a golden moment in which to reground ourselves in our lives here and, action by action, conversation by conversation, learn a new art for defending our communities and harmonizing the energies within ourselves and the city as a whole.
Please spread the word to your circle via your preferred channels of communication. And by all means come and participate. As Martha sang fifty years ago: It doesn't matter what you wear, just as long as you are there.
Come prepared to experience something real and mysterious shift within your sense of yourself and your city. Por cierto: when you head home, you'll see things from the vantage point of someone grown a little bit Taller.
