BALLE Fibershed Tour
This West Marin/Sonoma County tour takes place on June 14, 2014, starts at the HUB Oakland, and travels to Skyhorse Ranch, Valley Ford Merchantile and Wool Mill, then onto Windrush Farm for lunch. We'll visit locations where local wool is grown and meet the owners of sheep, llamas, alpacas, and goats. The tour ends at Oakland's 25th Street Collective where we'll meet Hiroko Kurihara, one of the founders of the collective. She will give us a tour of the designers many of whom are creating clothing sourced from within the local fibershed and from recycled materials. "It's our joy and responsibility to help develop our fibershed to impact change in our rangelands, our consumption, and develop responsible creation practices that include bay area living wages for sewn goods," said Kurihara. The tour visits her studio and the collective which includes artisans using reclaimed/recycled materials and also houses the Two Mile Wines bar where participants can enjoy local wine. Constance Washburn, former educational director of the Marin Agricultural Land Trust will lead the tour.  BAGT brings participants up close to businesses that are successfully achieving the goals of ecological balance, regional organic agriculture, and support of the local economy.
