Event
Public Planetarium Show
Bellevue College will be offering free public planetarium shows in its Willard Geer planetarium on the evening of Friday, March 28th at 7:00 and 8:30PM. Each show will consist of two professionally produced planetarium shows, "Stars" and "The Secret Lives of Stars", as well as a live segment introducing the audience to that night's sky, and will last a little over an hour.
The show "Stars" covers more about the constellations and uses animated characters to explain how people came to understand about the stars. In "The Secret Lives of Stars" goes into more depth about the actual nature of stars. The audience will learn that not all stars are created equal. Some are massive. Others are tiny; almost insignificant. The specific characteristics of a star will determine what type of life it will lead, how long it might live and even the type of death it will die. We will witness the amazing variety of stars and peer into their secret lives.
The skies visible above Bellevue will also be discussed by show-giver Pat Beatie. Pat, who also gives all planetarium shows to visiting school groups, is a retired law enforcement officer with a longtime interest in astronomy. He'll point out the brightest stars and constellations so audience members can go home and stargaze from their own backyards.
The Planetarium, is a special domed-ceiling room (room B-244) where the nighttime sky is accurately reproduced. The show is not recommended for kids under the age of six. Because the room is dark during the show, there is no late admission.
Admission is free but reservations must be made in advance. Reservations can be made starting at noon on Monday, March 24th. Reservations can be made through brown paper tickets. For more information call the BCC Science Division at 425-564-2321.
