Why do we do Kegs for Kidneys?
The National Kidney Foundation has supported my niece (our little girl) Izzy & our family since she was born in 2007 with a solitary kidney. Her journey has been a long one and we continue to find out everyday more about the side effects of what being on dialysis has done to her little body.
Today as she appears to be a normal but very tiny almost 7 year old, she is faced with challenges that are not life threatening but effect her emotionally and physically. She has osteoporosis and has recently been accepted into Shriners Children Hospital as doctors have diagnosed her with Osteogenesis Imperfecta. This limits the activities that Izzy is capable of doing. While most birthday parties are at Pump it Up these days this is something Izzy is not allowed to be a part of. Ballet, baseball, cheerleading, bowling are just a few of the endless sports we take advantage of our kids playing that Izzy will never be able to participate in. Her bones are so weak that just pulling the refrigerator door open she fractured her collar bone. She has had a total of 5 bone fractures to date. Physical therapy & aqua therapy seem to be keeping her busy these days. She is beginning to find interest in acting and singing which of course since there's nothing physical in either of those we are all very much encouraging her. Our friends from The Gift Theatre have so kindly offered to donate the proceeds from their upcoming improv shows at THE DEN to go into a fund to help put Izzy in theatre classes and/or vocal classes.
I sit here now and think about all this with tears in my eyes knowing that one day Izzy is gonna look back and see all the wonderful, amazing people that have supported The National Kidney Foundation on behalf of her. People joke that Izzy is mine and Gus' daughter but there's no way I can take the credit for this amazing little girl. She's got one hell of a strong mommy and I'm proud of my sister for the endless time, devotion and ongoing encouragement she has had for Izzy. She never ever lets Izzy feel bad for herself or consider herself different from other little kids she's just like everyone else just a bit smaller and little more fragile.

On June 6th from 6pm til 10pm we open our back lot to many local and national craft brewers as we work together towards raising kidney awareness with proceeds going to the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois!
We will be featuring some favorites and rares showcasing the best of craft beer. Each ticket will allow you entry, and a tasting glass for you to keep. As well, each person will be given a pamphlet detailing all the beers we are featuring. In addition to the many amazing beers you'll get to enjoy you will also have the opportunity to take part in a generously donated rare bottle raffle and silent auction.
To give you an idea...last year's rare bottle raffle included a case of Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout 2009, Brooklyn Black Ops, Central Waters 15, Dark Lord, BA Dark Lord, Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Vanilla Stout, Dark Horse Bourbon Barrel Plead the 5th, Heady Topper and much more! Of course we will have live music and plenty of food for everyone!
Step out into the back lot (there will be a tent)and mingle with the brewers, distributors, staff and friends! Have a great time for a great cause!
