Seminar Summary:
After you win the project, the real risk begins. Lean what you can do to manage risk before starting the project, and after you sign the contract. If things go south, know what to expect from the claim process. Outside of the project, also recognize the risks that are inherent in running an architectural business in California.
Learning Objectives:
Attendees will learn how to manage the risks of clients and projects
Understand risk allocation, insurability, and their interplay with key contract terms
Recognize the risk of each phase of a project and how to respond to this risk
Learn how the claim process works, including understanding your own insurance and how claims are resolved
Understand the business risks of running an architectural firm
Speaker(s) Biography:
Ryan Kohler, is a partner at the law firm of Collins Collins Muir + Stewart. Ryan works extensively with design professionals in the architecture and engineering world on business disputes, contracts, and professional liability defense. He has successfully defended design professionals from claims in trials, arbitrations, and administrative hearings.
Brian Stewart, Hon. AIA, is a senior partner at the law firm of Collins Collins Muir + Stewart. Brian has defended numerous architects and engineers in trials, arbitrations, and administrative hearings. He is an affiliate member of the AIA|LA and of ACEC, and has published numerous articles to help design professionals, and worked on countless architectural contracts over his career.
