C. elegans and model organisms
In this class we'll explore how scientists use model organisms to study complex diseases. You'll get hands-on experience with the nematode model organism C. elegans, learn about the connection between an animal's genes and physical appearance, and hear about how these tools are used in the laboratory to shed light on health, disease, and aging.
In this class, we will be using the digital cell phone microscopes that have been built in previous workshops. If you have one you want to bring, that's great ( or to sign up for the next workshop, http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/540036). Otherwise, we will provide microscopes for students. Feel free to bring a phone or camera to take pictures.
This class is appropriate for all ages. Children under 18 must have a parent.
