Owning Our Lives: Dream It. Speak It. Do It!! Youth LGBTQ Homeless Summit 2014
"Marriage is behind us. Housing is next. What are we doing to fight for the cause? The time starts NOW!"  --  Keyshia LayMorris, Youth Organizer
As a follow up to its award winning series, Generation Halsted, Windy City Times is hosting a summit on LGBTQ youth in the Chicago region. Summit participants will assess the issues impacting LGBTQ homeless youth and youth themselves will come up with new solutions to these complex issues. Youth, government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and concerned individuals are invited to participate in a new way of working together, similar to the diverse and transparent approach of the March on Springfield for Marriage Equality in 2013. We invite you to join us as we shine a public spotlight on LGBTQ youth homelessness in Chicago.

"As an appropriation chairman overseeing  the State budget, everyday I see how education, sports, arts, healthcare, substance abuse counseling, physical and behavioral health, child care, parenting, affordable housing and a myriad of other issues overlap, and how challenging it is for many youth, particularly homeless youth, to access and use services.  Everything we do to collaborate, coordinate and help youth access and navigate across institutions, geography, services and organizations  are tasks we owe to thousands of young people who are struggling to achieve their full potential."  State Rep. Greg Harris
