Missa Gaia (Earth Mass) & Misa Criolla - Canmore
Paul Winter's Missa Gaia (Earth Mass) has achieved international recognition and praise from audiences around the world. The Missa Gaia is a unique work which features the text of the traditional Mass, combined with music and textures from around the world culminating in a glorious celebration of the beauty and mystery of the earth. In addition to the international flavour of the music, the Missa Gaia also incorporates sounds of the earth in its musical palette. Voices of the humpback whale, wolf, loon, seals and birds appear throughout the work as featured elements in the music. The piece also showcases percussion instruments from Africa, Cuba and Brazil which are interwoven with jazz melodies emanating from a soprano saxophone.
We are also thrilled to present Ariel Ramirezs Misa Criolla, which has evolved into an audience favorite! Ramirez set the Spanish text of the Misa to indigenous folk melodies and rhythms, employing various Argentine dance styles such as chacarera, carnavalito and estilo pampeano in an arrangement for soloists, choir and a percussion ensemble.
Music Director John Goulart will conduct Bow Valley Chorus in these exciting concerts. Besides his conducting duties, Mr. Goulart will also be featured playing Charango and percussion, and will be joined by soloists Dallas Hayes, Jason Ragan and soprano saxophonist Richard Harding.
Please join us in celebrating this wonderful planet we live on. Let's give Mother Nature the audience she deserves!
