About Our Feature:
Stephen Meads is a writer and performer currently based in Portland Or. Before he lived there, he lived in the Bay Area where he spent years deeply involved in the local slam and spoken word scenes. He represented Bay Area venues five times at the National Poetry Slam, including Berkeley (2010), Oakland (2009), San Francisco (in both 2005 and 2008) and for the legendary variety show Tourette's Without Regrets (2011). Additionally he served as one of the vaunted nerd trivia masters at the National Poetry slam from 2008 to 2011. He has toured across the country as well as in Canada, and performed in front of audiences from Boston, Ma (at the Cantab) to Honolulu, Ha (where he performed for nearly 500 people), as well as The Green Mill in Chicago, Il (where slam as an art form was born). His work has appeared in print in several anthologies including High Desert Voices, Look Up In the Sky, the Sparrow Ghost Collective Anthology Vol. 2, and Aim for the Head, as well as being one of four featured poets in the Chinatown Newspaper for their issue on slam. More of his non-poetry writing can be found online at Nailed Magazine, where he is a contributing editor. He likes socks and milkshakes, but does not like sock milkshakes.
