Science: Alva Noe: Biology of Consciousness
In his provocative new book, philosophy professor Alva Noe challenges longheld scientific assumptions as well as Descartes famous statement: Rather than I think, therefore I am, No prefers I am, therefore I think. In Out of Our Heads: Why You Are Not Your Brain, and Other Lessons from the Biology of Consciousness, Noe rejects popular theories that assume our experience of the world stems from the firings of neurons in our brains, arguing instead that consciousness arises from interactions with our surroundings. Presented as part of Seattle Science Lectures, with Pacific Science Center and University Book Store.
