Pyrrhic Victory Beekeeping presents: Honeybee Culture and Beekeeping Basics
Bring in the Spring Equinox with a class on Beekeeping by local honeybee lover Aoibhinn Taylor (proun: ee-vin)
The price of the class includes a 90 minute group lesson, and help loading your bees into the hive when you get them. I also will assist you with your first hive-inspection two weeks after your bees are tucked in.
The group class will be small and allow you to network with other new beekeepers. This is important because you in the future you may need Queens or frames of brood (babies) from other beekeepers if your hive is struggling.
The class will cover not only the life of a single bee, but the way the bees work together in the hive. Hive culture is CRAZY and amazing! You will learn what to expect as a beekeeper in terms of the amount of time and labor required. (it's minimal depending on the season and how many hives you have) I also cover where you can get equipment and bees locally, and we will likely do the ordering online together at the end of the class. We will also discuss a bit about the nutritional value of honey, Colony Collapse Disorder, and how to keep you and your bees safe during hive inspections. I can also help you figure out where to put your hive! Some people roof-it and some people have backyards that work well too.
During Harvest time in the Fall I will do a second class on how to harvest honey and tuck your bees in for the brutal California Winters! (har har!) :)
