With Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow, the Park Slope Singers present a program of short pieces which is eclectic and bound to have something for everyone's musical taste. We will sing four motets the earliest, by Joaquin Despres, written toward the end of the 15th century; the most recent, by Ola Gjeilo, was written in 1999. We will sing about women from the music of the Elizabethan John Farmer to songs by The Beach Boys and Dolly Parton. And added to the mix are a few songs from the 1960 which inspired our theme including one by the Beatles, a folk tune by the New Christy Minstrels and a chart-topping number written by Carole King that was released by the Shirelles. Our assistant music director, Balint Varga, has created the choral arrangements for a few of these. Over the past few years, the Park Slope Singers have presented programs that include classical works by Mozart, Handel, Bach, Randall Thompson, Alice Parker and others. Join us as we offer music and song, both light and serious, that span the centuries.
