Most people think of immigration as a finite moment. But as a story immigration spans several generations and two nations. Artist Louis Hock's The American Tapes: Tales of Immigration depicts this broad view by revisiting the documentary subjects of his original 1978-1986 series, The Mexican Tapes: A Chronicle of Life Outside the Law. This new work catches up with their lives with most of them going from 'undocumented' to citizen. The collaborative character of the 35-year production gives the work its strength, singularity, and character. CineFestival presents Part 1 of this four-part series.
