Join AIA|LA COTE on Wednesday, February 26th for a tour of the Chevron Refinery in El Segundo, California. The largest refinery on the West Coast, Chevron's El Segundo refinery produces an average of 260,000 barrels of refined products per day, representing some 20% of the gasoline consumed in the Los Angeles basin.

Built in 1911 and continuously operated ever since, the refinery is an icon of Los Angeles' petroleum past, but also a very modern laboratory seeking energy optimization and to minimize impact on the surrounding community and environment.  

A salon entitled "The Fossil Fuel Dilemma" will follow immediately after the tour.  Hosted by Arup and Led by Erin McConahey, Principal of Arup's Mechanical Engineering and Sustainability, we will informally discuss the tour, and the problematics of our pre-post-Carbon present.

Transportation and Parking:
The bus will depart Arup promptly at 3PM.
Arup is readily accessible via public transportation. Parking will be available on site.

Due to Homeland Security concerns, Chevron's policy prohibiting photography will be strictly enforced while on the Refinery grounds.
