Waking the Bear: Finnish and Nordic Incantations for a New Season
A sacred animal in many northern cultures, the bear was ritually roused it from winter sleep, killed, and returned to its mythic origins in the stars. Drawing from immigrant stories and shamanistic magic songs like those in The Kalevala, "Waking the Bear" is a meditation on this through poetry and song.
