15th Annual Sustainability Awards Event
We're taking things to whole new heights, and you're not going to believe the view! Eat, drink and be merry with community leaders and get inspired by local sustainability heroes, all while supporting SSMC's efforts for economic vitality, environmental health and social equity.
Assemblyman Kevin Mullin will emcee an inspiring evening that will include a video highlighting each winner's accomplishments and silent and live auctions. State Senator Jerry Hill will once again be the volunteer auctioneer for the live auction, which includes getaway packages for Italy, Lake Tahoe, and an evening at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco paired with a 5-course dinner at Jardinière.
Special guest Dr. Gro Harlem Brundtland, international leader in sustainable development and Former Prime Minister of Norway, will give the keynote address that will tie the organization's 2014 spotlight on transportation to the broader sustainability movement and the evening's theme: "Going Places Together".
Winners of the 2014 Sustainability Award are: The Grand Boulevard Initiative, Reach and Teach, and the North Shoreview Montessori School. Winner of the 2014 Green Building Award is 5th Avenue Alternative School, Redwood City, with Honorable Mention going to affordable housing at 7555 Mission St, Daly City. The Ruth Peterson Award will go to SSMC founding member and long-time volunteer and supporter Ricki McGlashan.
SSMC's Sustainability Award recognizes businesses, community groups, city programs, and individuals that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to improving sustainable practices within San Mateo County. The Green Building Award, sponsored by SSMC, RecycleWorks, and the San Mateo County Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, highlights environmentally friendly design.
Thank you to SSMC's generous host, the San Mateo County Community College District, and to our sponsors: Pacific Gas and Electric Company, Bohannon Development Company, David Crabbe Architect, Lyngso Garden Materials, Recology San Mateo County, South San Francisco Scavenger, The Eco Review, The Cox Family, DES Architects + Engineers, Peninsula Health Care District, RethinkWaste/SBWMA, Cargill, Green City Listings, Half Moon Bay Brewing Co, Kaiser Permanente.
