The Submission by Jeff Talbott
A struggling, white gay playwright writes a play about an African American family trying to escape inner city poverty. To increase its chances of getting produced, he submits the play to a prestigious theatre festival under a pseudonym. When the play is accepted, he must hire an African American actress to assume the role of his invented pen name. What follows is a searing, no-holds barred, controversial and intelligent new comic drama about the words we use to describe each other, and the things we'll do to get what we want. An electrifying play from a fresh new voice in American theatre, The Submission was the winner of the New York Outer Critics Award for Best New Play and this is its Arizona premiere. This play is for mature audiences only.
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: Due to circumstances beyond control, we have cancelled the Feb 20, 21 and 23 performances. This production will open on Thursday, Feb 27 @ 7:30pm.
