Pruning Apples and Pears (and Espalier Basics)
Apple and pears produce fruit on older wood; encouraging spur development produces more fruit. Espalier trees are great for spur production. The class covers the basics of apple/pear tree pruning and discusses how to develop an espalier tree. The first hour will be spent in the classroom and the second will be a hands-on pruning demonstration.
Instructor Bill Wanless is co-owner of brooke/wanless gardens, a garden care and pruning service. He is an ISA certified arborist with over 20 years field experience. He specializes in pruning small trees, shrubs and vines, including fruit-bearing plants.
