Digital Transformations: Fashion as Object
As part of the Computational Fashion initiative, Eyebeam in collaboration with NRI, are presenting a three-day workshop on digital fabrication technologies for fashion. Participants will learn the fundamentals of 3D modeling software, taking an idea from concept design to prototype. The workshop will also introduce theories of computer-aided design, parametric design, digital fabrication, and 3D printing. All participants will produce their own 3D printed model at NRI's Manhattan facilities.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS:

Computational Fashion Fellow Keren Oxman is an artist and designer working at the intersection of Fine Arts Fashion and Fabrication Technology. She studied at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, and holds a B.A. from the Bezalel Academy in Jerusalem, and an M.A. from the Royal College of Art in London where she was a Clore Fellow. Her work experimentally investigates the formal mechanisms of generative design and their potential relation to the human body. Integrating traditional media with digital morphogenesis, her current interests attempt to combine disciplines such as textile craft with algorithmic behavior.

Arthur Young-Spivey is an industrial designer and digital fabrication specialist versed in all of the various aspects of 3D software, 3D printing/rapid prototyping, 3D scanning and how they apply to different industries. Arthur has consulted with medical, architectural, product design and engineering firms to facilitate how they can bring their visions into the real world.

PREREQUISITES AND SCHEDULE:

Workshop participants do NOT need to have prior experience working with 3D software. However, all participants are required to bring their own laptop with Rhino software already installed before the first day. Rhino is available as a free download for Mac computers. Download here.
