At Fox News, CRT is part of a dangerous plot born amongst Marxist educators to make white children feel bad about themselves. At CNN, CRT is a very technical theory about law, understood only by legal scholars and taught only in law schools and Ph.D. programs. There is barely a grain of truth on either side. A

After this course you should have a better idea of the origins of CRT in the 1970s and how it has developed into its current form. You should also be able to understand more clearly why most of the battles about CRT raging on TV, online, in state legislatures, and at local school board meetings are, mostly, just wrong-headed.

Tal Scriven is a professor and chair emeritus in the Philosophy Department at Cal Poly. He has, otherwise, taught at USC, Chapman, the University of South Florida and the University of Colorado.

Attendance Policies

Course attendees will present a government-issued ID such as a passport or driver's license and proof of a full vaccination completed at least 14 days prior to the date of a class. Attendees must show a record of a booster dose of vaccine if the second dose of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine (or the single shot from J&J) was taken more than nine months before the day of the class. Attendees who need a reasonable accommodation due to a medical condition or deeply held religious belief must provide proof of a negative Covid-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours of the class date.

For this class all attendees and volunteers are encouraged to wear masks (covering their nose and mouth) in all areas of the venue and throughout the class. Please stay home if you are feeling ill.
