Physical Theatre Melodrama Workout
PLAY BIG . PLAY FIERCE. PLAY TO SURVIVE.
This is a physically theatrical workout to get you out of your head and into your body. Melodrama joins music and drama using spectacle, gesture, pantomime, bold characters and physicality, heros and villains, the struggle of good and evil. Melodrama is the most expressive of Western theatrical forms, closest to the theatrical impulse, based in heightened physical gesture, high stakes, the struggle of virtue and evil ... to music. Unlike method based psychological acting, Artaud's "athlete of the emotions." It's cathartic, powerful and FUN!
Who is it for? Actors seeking to improve movement skills and explore the style, physical theatre artists looking for a 'workout' and non-artists who want to sweat and have fun. ALL levels welcome.
*Please wear clothes you can move in easily (this is very physical) and remove dangling jewelry. Bring water or something to hydrate.
** You will need to bring a signed venue waiver page that will be emailed to you upon signing up.
