Event
Cafe Scientifique
March Topic: The Political Virology of Bird Flu H5N1, the bird flu virus, appears a leading candidate for a pandemic. With good cause much attention has been focused on H5N1's molecular properties and geographic spread. In contrast, little effort has been aimed at describing the virus's social origins. Join phylogeographer Rob Wallace as he relates bird flu biology to the political economies of agribusiness, global finance, and environmental degradation.
The Bell Museum's Caf Scientifique is a happy hour exchange of ideas about science, environment, and popular culture featuring experts from a variety of fields on diverse and often provocative topics.
