Anatomy In Focus: Ligaments and Labrum of the Hip
In this unique, hands-on workshop, participants will build the major ligament and labrum of the hip, essential elements involved in movements. The labrum is a smooth layer of cartilage that lies betwen the hip joint of the femur and the hip socket in the pelvis. Key elements of this class include the structure and function of these important components, and their role in balance, movement, and general health. The workshop includes active sessions incorporating Pilates-based floor exercises with proven effectiveness. Participants will re-create all of the functioning parts from clay applied to a detailed, realistic plastic model at 60 percent of life size. Building in this way is an active learning process that is both engaging and informative. The Anatomy In Clay(r) Learning System is a unique hands-on approach that has led the way in innovative anatomy education for more than thirty years. The subject has critical benefits for professionals working in physical therapy, movement therapy, Yoga, Pilates, dance, and general healthcare, but it is also open to students and the general public. Workshop presenters: Amy Anderson, PMA(r)-CPT, has been a Pilates instructor-trainer for more than twenty years and is a Gold Certified Pilates Method Alliance teacher. She is also a Dance Medicine Specialist and has developed a series of very effective exercises and stretches to aid in the prevention and rehabilitation of joint issues. Greg Gonzales will lead the hands-on workshop session using the Anatomy In Clay(r) Learning System to explore and understand the mechanisms of the hip. Gergory has an academic background in kinesiology and decades of work as a professional dancer and dance instructor.
