AWOL to present its 9th Annual Theatrical Production
SAVANNAH, Ga. - All Walks of Life (AWOL) youth theater program known as Act Up! is set to perform, Consequences the second of its newest series of theatrical work focused on great American poets February 14-15, 2014 at 7:00pm at the Johnny Mercer Theater located at 301 West Oglethorpe St. Tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for children 5 and under. A special reservation only school show will be held at 10:00am on February 14th. AWOL is known for taking historical works and fusing them together with contemporary and often hard hitting topics, allowing area youth an opportunity to not only learn, but to showcase their talent in a meaningful and prolific fashion. Consequences is just that style of theater, focusing on the great African American Women Poets Maya Angelou and Nikki Giovanni who both experienced the brutality of racial discrimination, but she also absorbed the unshakable faith and values of traditional African-American family, community, and culture.Both Poets continue to stir our souls, energize our bodies, liberate our minds, and heal our hearts.
This years production will be the second in AWOL's Poetic Series of plays inspired by the poetic works of Maya Angelou and Nikki Giovanni.Consequences is a poetic and historical journey taken by a young teenager named Mya who is in search of understanding her past that she has been rejecting to understand while attending school in her History class. Mya goes on a musical and poetic journey from the 1800's into the future. Mya will begin to understand why Consequences are so important in her journey to understanding the true meaning of life as it is today.

ABOUT AWOL: The mission of the organization is to promote and provide self-awareness through the use of Poetry, Hip Hop, and Life. This mission is accomplished by providing youth with safe and free after-school and evening arts-based educational programs. The organization's main goal is to successfully develop youth in an environment that encourages respect, education, creativity and most of all non-violence.
