Championship Tournament Viewing & Community Celebration
As Alpena continues its starring role on the Outdoor Channel's Major League Fishing tv series preparations are underway for a large-scale viewing party for the Championship episode of the series.
On February 8, from 1:30 to 5 p.m. the Alpena Convention & Visitors Bureau and Northern Lights Arena are hosting a Championship Viewing Community Celebration at the ice arena. Tickets are on sale now at the Alpena Area Chamber of Commerce offices, at Neiman's Family Market at the service desk, and online at www.northernlightsarena.com. Ticket cost is $11.
In addition to sharing community pride and watching the Championship episode, the Community Celebration will include door prizes such as autographed items from the anglers, prize packages, and a few surprises. The joint celebration is also a fundraiser as proceeds from the event will be split between the hosting entities. The Alpena CVB will use their portion to recruit more events like Major League Fishing to Alpena. Northern Lights Arena will be using their portion to make necessary improvements to the arena's water heating system.
Each Saturday as a new episode of the program airs members of the community have been gathering at official viewing party locations (Latitudes Tavern and Fletcher Street Brewery) and will now have a chance for a big celebration when the final Championship episode airs in February.
Twenty-four of the world's best professional bass anglers made the trip to Alpena in late August of 2013 to film the week-long Major League Fishing General Tire Summit Cup tournament on three inland lakes. The series premiered on Saturday, Jan. 4, and a new episode airs each Saturday from 3-4 p.m. (EST) on the Outdoor Channel (Charter 216, Direct TV 606, Dish 396).
