Girls Inc. of the Island City: Women Who Dare Awards Event
The Women Who Dare Awards Event is Girls Inc. of the Island City's major signature event of the year.
This year's event will be on Saturday, March 28, 2009, at Scott's Seafood Restaurant Pavilion in Oakland's Jack London Square.
At the event we will give awards to six outstanding women and teens entrepreneurs who represent excellence and who are great role models for our girls.
This year's theme is "Women Entrepreneurs" and we will honor the following six powerful Bay Area women and teens:
Lori Shannon - President & Founder, See Jane Run Suzanne McKechnie Klahr - CEO & Founder, BUILD Julie Baron - Owner, Julie's Coffee & Tea
Sejal Hathi - CEO & Founder, Girls Helping Girls Wanda Ali - CEO & Founder, Sure Shot Cricket Gear Lashaelia Smith, Cassie Linzie, Georgia Hale - Growing Youth Project.
In February, girls from our center go through our award-winning Best Foot Forward program - a month of workshops on interviewing, script writing, presentation, and etiquette - to prepare for the event. They will meet our awardees, prepare scripts, and will be the co-hosts who present the awards that day.
Judy Grant, award-winning journalist, will be our emcee.
Tickets must be purchased in advance and are $35 a person, plus handling/credit card fees.
Prize drawing tickets for our fabulous give-away drawing are $10 each/3 for $25 and are available by e-mailing ecullen@girlsincislandcity.org, and will also be available the day of the event.
