New Play Contest Concert Reading(s)
The Louise Wigglesworth Excellence in Playwriting is an annual award that is open to all new work. This year two finalists were selected in addition to the winner.

The submissions are blind and judged by a panel of readers chosen specifically for this event.

The 2022 winner is:
"The Queen of Sad Mischance" by John Minigan.
Presented Saturday, May 14th at 8 pm

Kym thinks she lucked into the perfect resume-builder for a biracial college senior
determined to find a career in academia: helping renowned white feminist scholar
Beverly Norden finish her ground-breaking book on Shakespeares Queen Margaret
before Alzheimer's makes the task impossible. As the passing months make clear that
Beverly's failing memory is not the greatest obstacle to their work, Kym reassesses her
connection with Beverly, Beverly's son, and academia itself. What can the Margaret
story tell her about her own path forward?

Finalist
"Save Hamlet" by Mark Harvey Levine
Presented Friday, May 13thm at 8 pm

In this version of Hamlet, a lot of the characters turn out to be women in disguise. They realize if they don't step in, the whole thing is going to end in tragedy. With women now in charge, it's Shakespeare's famous play, but funnier and less murder-y.

Finalist
"Come Again" by Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend
Presented Sunday, May 15th at 2 pm

Miami hospice nurse, Marina Johnson, wakes one day to find a stranger in her apartment, telling her she has been tapped to be God's climate change prophet. A comedy for a species on the brink of self-destruction.
