In a New Light: Natasha Carlitz Dance Ensemble | Lydia Feuerhelm
This split-bill event will include a preview of NCDE's "In Parting...," a suite of dances set to Mozart's "Gran Partita," and the premiere of Feuerhelm's "Built in the Dark," an exploration of light pollution, darkness, and society's relationship to nature.
About Feuerhelm / Built in the Dark Feuerhelm will present the debut of her project "Built in the Dark," a dance performance project that asks, "What would re-discovering our relationship to darkness and by extension, nature look like?" Over the course of a month, she took dancers to various locations around San Francisco at night for observation and exploration, exposing herself and them to the world in darkness. The performance that has resulted from these field trips connects us to states of stress, anxiety, wonder, mysticism, fear, safety, and much more. Learn more at lfdance.com
About NCDE / In Parting Now in its 17th season, the Natasha Carlitz Dance Ensemble previews excerpts from its new work "In Parting...," scheduled to premiere in full at Cubberley Theatre on December 2 & 3, 2022. Inspired by the melodies both playful and longing of Mozart's serenade for winds known as the "Gran Partita," "In Parting..." celebrates connection and, in the gorgeous Adagio movement, invokes the pain of loss. Choreography of the Adagio, Missing, began at the height of the pandemic; more recently, the dancers have rejoiced in working closely together on the intricate group sections.
