Rainsford Island Exploration
Friends of the Boston Harbor Islands sponsor the boat trip to Rainsford Island aboard the beach landing vessel Knotts Island. The trip departs from the public dock adjacent to the former Houghs Neck Maritime Center, 137 Bayview Avenue, Quincy, MA at 1:00PM. returning to the dock at 5:00P.M.. Parking is free.
Rainsford Island once known as Hospital Island has had centuries of varied uses. Photo historian Elizabeth Carella will do a brief program upon arrival. You can walk the Island, its beaches and coves. Maps will be distributed for self-exploration.
Pack a picnic and bring water. There is no food sold on the boat or the Island. Park policy is no pets and no alcohol.
The Island does not have a dock. The vessel Knotts Island is not equipped for mobility assisted devices. Boat capacity is limited- advance tickets are encouraged. No un-reserved walkups please.
