PLATINUM XX
The Yakima Enological Society is proud to announce its Platinum XX dinner to be held on May 14th, at the Yakima Country Club starting at 5:30 pm. We will be featuring 20 Platinum award winning wines from the 2021 Platinum judging conducted by Great Northwest Wines.
Of the top ten wineries that have won the most Platinum awards, six of them will be at our Platinum XX they are: Maryhill Winery, Gehringer Brothers Winery, Reustle-Prayer Rock Vineyards, Clearwater Canyon Cellars, Coyote Canyon Winery and Palencia Wine Co.
This year there were eighteen wineries that were first time winners in the judging. Three of them will be presented at our event. They are Pomeroy Cellars, Coventina Vineyards and VanArnam Vineyards.
Idaho has recently shown it is making some great wines. Eleven of the Double Platinum winners this year were from Idaho. Three of them will be represented at Platinum XX: Cinder Wines, Holesinsky Winery and Vineyard and Clearwater Canyon Cellars.
The evening will start with the Winemakers Reception where we will enjoy seven great Double Platinum wines paired with passed appetizers as we meet and honor the personnel from the award-winning wineries. Following the reception, we will enjoy a five-course meal, each course paired with Platinum winning wines. The menu is still being finalized but I can assure you that lots of thought has gone into the food-wine pairings. The menu will be included in next months newsletter.
We will have both a silent auction during the reception with beautiful baskets and Platinum award winning wine lots and a live auction during the course of the evening of wines, dinners and two Platinum judgings. Proceeds from this event will again go to wine industry scholarships at Yakima Valley College, WSU Tri Cities School of Enology, the wine program at Walla Walla Community College and Okanagan College in British Columbia. Proceeds from past Platinum dinners have allowed the Yakima Enological Society to donate over $115,000 in scholarships to these students.
For attendees from outside the Yakima Valley, we have arranged with Hilton Garden Inn in Yakima for a special room rate of $119 per night for a king bed, good from Friday, May 13th through Sunday, May 16th. Reservations must be made by Sunday, May 1st or the rooms will be released. Reservations can be made by calling 509-454-1111 and saying you are with the Platinum Dinner-YES group. For those members and guests concerned about drinking wine and then driving, we will again be offering the popular option of using Aladin Limousine Service to shuttle people back and forth to the event for the special price of $40 per person (does not include gratuity).Please contact, Steve Zien at 509-969-2877 to make arrangements for your pickup..
The ticket cost this year is $165 per person The easiest way to get tickets is to go to Brown Paper Ticket and then purchase tickets and use your credit card. Dont delay if you are planning to snag one of the few remaining tickets to one of the premier wine events in the Pacific Northwest.
