4Theatrsake will be shaking up Shakespeare in whole new way at the Charles H. Wright Museum. The rising local theater troupe 4Theatrsake has put an up beat hip-hop twist on William Shakespeares Macbeth by giving it an urban makeover. Through altering the setting and other details and maintaining the original language of the legendary play, they have innovatively transformed Macbeth. 4Theatrsakes production of William Shakespeares mystical play Macbeth is co-directed by Wyldchild L. Chemist and Bernard L. Causey. The production stars Angela Roberts and Sean Rodriguez. The cast includes a ton of great performers led by: Karen Minard (Macduff), Bernard Causey (Malcom), Kennikki Jones (Banquo), Ava Rodgers (Lead Witch), Sherina Sharpe / Niseiki Macferrin (Talented Witch / Lennox) Sansa Sanyika (Chosen Witch), Antonio Rosaro (Donalbain / Ross), Nicole Miller (Hectate), Jasmine McCord (Bleeding Sargent), and Angel Chisolm (King Duncan). Macbeth illustrates the account of a valiant general and his quest for the throne. This contemporary version of the classic takes place in modern day Brazil rather than eleventh century Scotland. Portions of the play are performed as a musical and there are no witches in this Macbeth. Instead of three witches there are Condomble practitioners. Condomble is the name of the Yoruba based religious traditions of Brazil. In the play the practitioners will be performing actual rites. The practitioners visit Macbeth (Rodriguez) and Banquo (Jones) to prophesize their futures.
They tell Macbeth he will become the Thane of Cawdor and eventually he will become king. Macbeth and his wife realize that the prophecies have come true. Lady Macbeth (Roberts) convinces him that he should execute King Duncan (Chisolm) so that he can quickly become king. One murder leads to more treachery. Macbeths twisted ambition leads to his demise. In contrast to all of the exciting updates that 4Theatrsake has implemented they chose to employ the original text in their production. This modern day adaptation of Macbeth has sparked the interest of young people. The original text combined with an urban flair gives young people a better understanding of Shakespeares poetic language. Sean Rodriguez, a member of 4Theatrsake said their version of Macbeth provides young people with a better understanding of the play through its visual familiarity. The play is performed in a visual aspect that young people understand. The urban lifestyle depicted in this production is a lifestyle that the youth experiences. 4Theatrsake was founded on four basic principles: 1.) Theatrical experimentation 2.) Social Justice 3.) Urban Networking 4.) Environmental Consciousness 4Theatrsakes new and improved version of Macbeth definitely will shake up your idea of the old Shakespeare that is covered in cobwebs.
