Gallery Series 258

Gallery Series 258 activates Fiona Ackermans exhibition at Gallery Jones (Lizard Brains, Feb 26 - March 26) with a series of short performances by dance and multimedia artists from Western Canada.

The evening premieres works by local dance artists Deanna Peters/Mutable Subject, Oksana Augustine, Rachel Maddock and Caroline MacCaull, and a showing of a short film beguiling the land by Alberta-based Cree multidisciplinary artist Jessica McMann. Each work sits conspicuously adjacent to Ackermans paintings, allowing viewers to draw their own connections.

Curatorial statement:

"Fiona Ackerman writes, 'A painting creates a place for an idea and a feeling to inhabit. Painting is the practice of giving shape to a fog, like noise finding a beat.'

The body, like a painting, is a place for an idea or a feeling to inhabit. In the chaos and the void, we as dance artists inhabit the body, giving shape to intangible ideas, paving a way forward."

This is a seated, ticketed event for fully vaccinated attendees. Please note that audience members must wear a face mask inside the gallery at all times.
