Globemed at University of Cincinnati 9th Annual Benefit Dinner
GlobeMed is a non-profit, international student-run organization that emphasizes the sustainability of partnership as well as health equity. As a network, it is GlobeMed's mission to address issues of inequality and inequity around the world. In order to do this, each university chapter is partnered with an established grassroots organization abroad, working with the partner to identify its needs and how the chapter can support them. The University of Cincinnati chapter is partnered with Social Action for Women (SAW), located in Mae Sot, Thailand. As a chapter, we aim to raise $10,000 each year to support SAW's efforts to address issues of education, access to basic and preventive health care, the rights of women and children, and minority rights for those who have crossed the border from Burma to escape severe political unrest. In Cincinnati, we also work to raise awareness of issues in our own community through our partnership with Weightless Anchor. We host a series of campaigns and advocacy events throughout the year, and one of our events has included an annual Benefit Dinner, at which we bring together members of the community to discuss GlobeMed's work and raise funds.

The evening includes a silent auction, dinner, and a keynote address. Last year, we were fortunate to gross over $4,000 at our Benefit Dinner, during a virtual Benefit Dinner due to the pandemic. We hope to not only raise $10,000 this year, but continue to foster partnership, collaboration, and initiatives to create health equity both in Cincinnati as well as in Thailand.

GlobeMed at UC's 9th annual Benefit Dinner will be held on April 1st, 2022 at the Madison Event Center in downtown Covington will feature Mr. Jeremiah Griswold, founder, and co-owner of White Whale Studio and Gallery in Downtown Cincinnati, as our keynote speaker. He is a contemporary oil painter and also exhibits a mastery of the medium of tattoo after 15 years of praxis. Jeremiah specializes in figurative art, portraiture, single-needle pointillism, scientific illustration, and academic styles. He has learned from some of the finest artists in the world, including Italian maestro Roberto Ferri. Jeremiah holds degrees in Literature from the University of Cincinnati and Global Urban Leadership from Bakke Graduate University in Seattle, Washington. In addition to his art training, Jeremiah particularly enjoys the intersection of art, literature, and social justice. Jeremiah's team of artists at White Whale travel regularly to Guatemala to provide pro bono cover-up tattoo work for individuals who have left the gang lifestyle, and a portion of all proceeds provides scholarships and equipment to some of the most marginalized and oppressed communities in Guatemala City.

Over a plated dinner, community professionals and University of Cincinnati faculty and staff will also hear from Sachika Singh, Globemed at UC alumni. Sachika Singh is a double Bearcat and former Campaigns Coordinator for GlobeMed at UC. She completed her Bachelors in Sociology in 2019 and, upon graduating, interned for Social Action for Children and Women (SAW). Sachika completed her Masters in Sociology in 2020, where she studied abortion policy and promoting continuity of care through improving patient follow-up practices. After her Masters, Sachika joined GlobeMed Headquarters as a chapter coach, facilitating anti-oppressive partnerships between GlobeMeds 36 university chapters and their global, grassroots partners. Now a Clinical Research Coordinator at Cincinnati Children's Hospital, her research focuses on the third element of reproductive justice; addressing community trauma and the impact of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) by building community resilience.

Guests are also welcome to bid on items from a large silent auction while enjoying an open bar before dinner. Partnerships and collaboration will be created throughout the night among professionals and students alike.
