The Smith Project is a contemporary and theatrical dance company created to carry audiences into a new age of ever-evolving, vibrant dance performances by combining installments of the technology arts, composers, visual arts, dance styles and techniques while supporting innovative, professional artists in the community.

Created by Marisa MacKay, [former Director, choreographer, and dancer of Reacha movement collective, inc.;] self producer and performer, 2011-2013 Performance Artist Resident of  The Charlotte Street Urban Culture Project, Inspiration Grant Award Recipient of The Arts Council of Metropolitan Kansas City, and chosen for the recent outdoor pop-performance collaboration with The Ensemble of Irreproducible Outcomes for "Music and Movement on Impulse", as well as the gallery installation of "The Dinner Party," presented in part of the Charlotte Street's "Dining Room Project." The Smith Project is a new dance company established in Kansas City in 2011.

Including four Open Studio Performances with the Charlotte Street Foundations Urban Culture Project, The Smith Project will be produced their own full-scale dance concert in 2012 at the beautiful two-hundred and fifty seat theatre in Off Center Theatre located in Crown Center. Collaborating with the choreographers and dancers, singer/song writer Eliza Rickman will be performed live with The Smith Project.
*If you cannot make the performances on the the 14th & 15th of December, please contact us to attend the invitation only dress rehearsal on Friday the 13th!

The Smith Project is in need of private funding, donors, and volunteer support for their 2014 season. Expenses at this time are for rehearsal space and theatre rental, insurance, lighting technicians, and potential artist pay. Volunteer opportunities are open sound runner and stage manager. Please contact any of the The Smith Project dancers or Marisa MacKay with any questions or interest in supporting Kansas City's own: The Smith Project.
