Our Town
Hamline University's Department of Theatre & Dance kicks off its 91st season with OUR TOWN, written by Thornton Wilder and directed by Jeff Turner. "Do human beings ever realize life while they live it? - every, every minute?" In a world facing economic depression, the rise of fascism, and warfare in Europe and the Pacific Rim, Thornton Wilder's OUR TOWN - first produced on Broadway in 1938 - challenged its audience to seek solace and find value in the smallest, most ordinary events of human existence. We too are confronting multiple crises in the 21st century and return to this play - first produced at Hamline in 1946 - to explore how Wilder's complex and eternal themes speak to audiences today. Please join us for an evening of theatre that playwright Edward Albee called "one of the toughest, saddest, most brutal plays that I've ever come across."
OUR TOWN opens November 12th at 7:30 p.m. and runs November 13th, 18th, 19th & 20th at 7:30 p.m. at Hamline University's Anne Simley Theatre located in the Drew Fine Arts Building. Parking is available in Lot B located next to Drew Residence Hall.
